Short Description

The Route 54 Continental Boulevard railroad grade crossing of the North Shore Railroad in Danville will reopen by 10:00 tonight, three days ahead of schedule.

It had closed for repairs the morning of Oct. 5 with a signed detour using Mill Street.

“Everything has proceeded perfectly on this job, and we were able to get a second paving crew in today,” said Jeff Stover, executive director of the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority (JRA).

The JRA owns the tracks while the North Shore Railroad is the operator.

Repairs included raising and leveling the track, and milling and paving the highway approaches to the track.

Project cost is $54,000, shared between the JRA and North Shore Railroad. G. O. Hawbaker Inc. did the work as the lowest responsible bidder. Paul Jannotti of Jannotti Rail Consulting is the project engineer.
