Body

The Route 54 Continental Boulevard railroad grade crossing of the North Shore Railroad in Danville will be closed for repairs beginning the morning of Oct. 5 and will be open for traffic by the morning of Oct. 10.

There will be a signed detour using Mill Street.

The SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority (JRA) has notified impacted businesses.

“This repair is necessary and should preclude any future closing of the road in the foreseeable future,” said Jeff Stover, JRA executive director.

Repairs include raising and leveling the track, and milling and paving the highway approaches to the track.

Project cost is $54,000, shared between the JRA and North Shore Railroad. G. O. Hawbaker Inc. is contracted to do the work as the lowest responsible bidder. Paul Jannotti of Jannotti Rail Consulting is the project engineer.
