A homegrown Lewistown business expects to create another 10 to 12 jobs over the next year because of a loan partnership with SEDA-Council of Governments (SEDA-COG) and The Juniata Valley Bank.
Donald M. Chapman III started his business, Nittany Paper Mills Inc. as a side job with a few guys in a garage in 2005. Today, it employs over 100 people at its location at the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation.
“SEDA-COG is proud to help Donald invest in his business in his hometown of Lewistown,” said John Reichard, SEDA-COG’s loan officer who helped secure the financing.
The $326,800 SEDA-COG Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority/Small Business First loan and a loan by The Juniata Valley Bank enabled the company to purchase a third Maflex Tissue Line Machine. The machine creates large toilet tissue rolls and paper towels in hotels, restaurants, and public restrooms.
The new machine is projected to increase sales by up to $15 million.
Central Pennsylvania provides an excellent market position for the company as it is centrally located in the east coast, and a day’s travel to Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and other large markets.
Chapman is passionate about his company and investing in his hometown. “We are dedicated to customer service and strive to have the best service not just in our industry, but in the entire marketplace. Furthermore, our success has allowed us to create over 100 jobs in central Pennsylvania, while many companies have left throughout the years,” Chapman said.
The company’s focus is to provide economical workplace solutions with highly renewable paper towels, bath tissue, facial tissue, napkins, and no-touch dispensers. Nittany Paper produces over 100 products to customize customer restrooms, break rooms, and work areas with Green Seal and USDA Certified Products.
Their raw material is purchased in large rolls, which are remanufactured by Nittany Paper into the end products. The advantage that Nittany Paper has over other same-line products is the higher absorption rate, which was designed from a specific mold.
