Short Description

Detour will be in place

WILLIAMSPORT – The Maynard Street grade crossing of the Lycoming Valley Railroad in Williamsport adjacent to Burger King and Sheetz will be closed for reconstruction from June 8 to 13. The crossing will be open for traffic on the morning of Wednesday, June 14.

There will be a signed detour that uses PA-654 in South Williamsport, Route 15, and both West Third and West Fourth streets.

The project, near the gateway to Penn College, entails:

·       Replacing a badly deteriorated rubber crossing with a new, heavy duty concrete tub crossing.

·       Replacing existing sidewalks and curbs with new, American with Disabilities Act-compliant concrete facilities.

·       Paving Maynard Street on the north and south sides of the new at-grade crossing, extending out about 20 feet.

·       Upgrading the existing signal system (masts and gates) with a new system comprised of cantilevers and gates.

Total project cost is $348,949. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is contributing $321,413 in Federal Highway Administration Section 130 Safety funds, while the Lycoming Valley Railroad and the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority are paying over $27,000 toward the project.

K.W. Reese of Mercersburg was the lowest responsible bidder for the crossing reconstruction. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College will do the sidewalk, curbs, and paving work. Diamondback Signal LLC of Sykesville, Maryland will construct the signal system. Paul Jannotti of Jannotti Rail Consulting is the engineer.
